When we moved to Knight Road the song Starry, Starry Night became stuck in my head. As I reflected upon Van Gogh's painting I thought of how he had used movement in the sky to give drama to his image. I decided to twist the colours of the night sky and to build the image up in layers to add feelings of shadows and depth. I use mica to give it the sparkle of the stars. Like the "Waterfall" series, the pontil-drawing is done at various stages of the blowing process. The final fuming adds the shimmering iridescence to the image. This complex series is done on a cobalt base glass and the overlapping trees will 'glow' or 'fluoresce' as they are excited by the UV in sunlight.
